TnF: APA Pre-Alpha Work #8

Hey, just posting an update about progress.
Been making steady progress, doing testing and writing code.  Mostly writing code.  I don't have anything to show for it right now, but believe me, it's going well.  I'm working on NPC AI.  It's behind the scenes stuff and isn't too glamorous right now.

For now just imagine the final product: a lively economy for the world including (but not limited to) cut-throat bandits and trading between towns.

  1. Perhaps there may be caravans? Hmmmm...

    Yes, caravans indeed.

On another note, right now NPC's search their inventory for food! If there is no food, they seek the closest General Store to purchase (or steal) some. If for some reason there is no food for sale, they head out into the wilderness to hunt/gather.

  3. Awesome! So perhaps if we managed to catch them out in the wilderness, we would be able to fight them (Or kill them) for their food? I assume by that you mean all human (All in general, even) have an inventory that is dropped upon death?

Yes, that's right. Or at least that's the plan. Every NPC(townspeople) and monster have an inventory which holds items that will get discovered, sold, bought, used, etc by both NPC and player.

As of yesterday NPC's can get fish, mushrooms, and berries. They sell any excess once they've eaten to the general store (assuming the shop owner is present and has the gold/silver/copper).

I dare say though, that killing innocent townspeople will get you notority. I haven't really had much time to think about how I want to do guards and what happens when you're notorius, but it will probably be the usual, people don't like you, guards attack, etc. The real challenge is deciding what happens when you kill a lone townsperson in the middle of nowhere. It's still notorious but no one saw it to spread the word and raise your notority.
